Frequently Asked Questions
We will have an in depth conversation about what the primary issues are and what your goals are for treatment. Treating persistent pain requires a lot of education in order to create a plan that is individualized to you. We have to find a way in that your body and nervous system will accept in order to return you to the activities that are meaningful to you. Sometimes this can be a nonlinear process, it just depends on how your body responds. Please expect some form of movement or corrective exercise, but it will be gentle and always keeping in mind where your body is at. With chronic pain and chronic fatigue there can be good days and bad days, and my goal is to never flare you up. I will bring my own treatment table and other equipment as needed. You just have to show up with an open mind and a willingness to participate and engage in your healing process.
Over the years insurance companies have continued to cut payments to physical therapy providers making it difficult to get reimbursed for the services rendered. So, in order to maximize profitability, many physical therapy clinics have had to cut down on the one-on-one time clients are able to spend with their physical therapists and rely on higher client volumes and the use of physical therapy aides. I feel that clients are able to get better faster with quality appointments that are spent 100% with me. If you’d like, you may submit a super bill to your insurance company for reimbursement of services provided. Depending on your insurance and your deductible, you MAY receive reimbursement. Your super bill will be email to you upon request.
No. You do not need a physician's referral/prescription to schedule a physical therapy appointment. California has limited direct access for physical therapists, which means you can be seen for physical therapy for up to 12 visits or over a span of 45 days without a physician’s referral/prescription. It is a good idea to check with your insurance company to ensure that they do not require a referral for reimbursement.
Wear comfortable clothing. Depending on what you have going on we may do some movement or therapeutic exercises, or we may just need to sit and talk to create a plan/structure on what steps need to be taken to begin to decrease your pain.
This is such a hard question to answer when pain has been ongoing for years and years. My goal is to see you as few times as possible. However, often with persistent symptoms we have to meet the body where it is at and sometimes that means moving slowly so as to not overwhelm the nervous system. Visits can be spaced out months apart to give your body time to adapt before moving onto the next steps. Or we can increase frequency if you prefer more guidance as you work to decrease your symptoms.
Please cancel all appointments at least 48 hours in advance to avoid the late cancellation fee which is equal to the 60% appointment cost. Appointment costs will not be prorated for late arrivals.
